Brian Currin, Cape Town based freelance web marketer and Google Adwords consultant.

Online Marketing is about doing more of the right things, more often

My name is Brian Currin and I have loved music all my life. I am a self-employed Web Marketer and Music Consultant. I live, work and play in Cape Town, South Africa.

I have been a music fan since I was born, and involved in the sales and marketing of technology products since the early 80′s. I have held various sales, marketing and management positions with Panasonic, Hicor and Sony.

In 1997 I was involved in the rediscovery of the world’s biggest cult musician, Rodriguez. I have a deep love for South Africa and its music and was co-founder of the influential SA Rock Digest e-mag in 1999 with Stephen Segerman.

Online Marketing:

Over the years, I have helped many South African musicians and music-related businesses (and also many non-music ones) establish a presence on the internet. I am a strong believer in web standards compliance, search engine optimization and social media marketing.

I have been involved in compiling various compilation CDs including: ‘Disco Fever‘ (Gallo, 1999), McCully Workshop ‘Greatest Hits’ (2005), Abstract Truth ‘Silver Trees & Totum’ (FreshMusic, 2005), ‘Astral Daze – South African Psychedelic Rock 1968-1972‘ (FreshMusic, February 2006) and various CDs in the Solid Gold Music series.

I have  compiled a number of Virtual Collections for Rhythm Music Store including The Best Of Battery 9, Nowhere’s Calling, Gypsies and Ghosts by Piet Botha, Born Under A Bad Sign by Albert Frost, The Fokofpolisierkar Collection, The African Dope Collection and others.

I have written sleeve notes and artist biographies for a number of albums including releases by Abstract Truth, The Radio Rats, Jack Hammer, McCully Workshop and The Tidal Wave. I have provided research information for the sleeve notes for CD releases from Rodriguez, Falling Mirror, John Kongos, the SA Top 40 Hits Of All-Time Volume 6 and a few others.

I have compiled Musical Family Trees (similar to Pete Frame) for Trevor Rabin, McCully Workshop, Third Eye, The Radio Rats, Steve Louw, Clout, Abstract Truth, Freedom’s Children, Tidal Wave and others, some of which have been published in CD booklets.

My current musical projects include:

Music Choice

UK-based Music Choice is the Audio Channel supplier for TopTV. Since April 2010 I have been consulting on 3 South African channels; SA Modern, SA Traditional and SA Gospel.

This online music store was established in 2006 and I am the content editor and involved with their online marketing.

I co-founded this project in 2002, and it has been the official supplier of free mp3s to Channel24 (MWeb) since 2004.

South African Rock Encyclopedia

I founded this website in 1999 and I am still the curator.

SA Rock Digest

Co-founded this e-mag in 1999 with Stephen Segerman and it ran weekly until April 2004. It was re-established in 2009, as part of Sugar Music, embracing social media tools and platforms.

1001 SA Songs You Need To Hear Before You Go Deaf

Project created by John Samson in May 2011. I provide technical support and music research.

Web Marketer

Since 1997, I have been helping South African musicians and music-related businesses (and also some non-music ones) establish a presence on the internet.
